Holiday Helpers Presented by Paypal™ Volunteer to be a member of Holiday Helpers and help make the 28th annual San Jose Holiday Parade the best one yet! It’s not too late to join the fun of the parade’s tradition. Join Holiday Helpers and have a chance to carry a giant helium balloon in the parade, dress in costume to greet parade-goers, be the official escort of parade units down the parade route or more! From the Eyes of the PayPal Holiday Helpers Balloon Handler: “It’s so exciting to help maneuver a giant inflatable balloon. Because I arrived early at the staging area for my duty, I was able to assist with the balloon inflation and placement in line. Thankfully, I remembered to bring my gloves, for they came highly recommended by parade staff. I even got to wear a cool PayPal Holiday Helper t-shirt!” (16+ years old) Destaging: “I was able to assist with the disbursement of the parade units at the end of the parade route! I was also in charge of collecting signs, banners, and other display items while distributing parade participation ribbons.” (14+ years old)
Inflatable Characters & Escorts: “Being an escort is beyond exciting. I got the chance to greet thousands of spectators that were lining the streets of downtown along side a fun and lovable inflatable character.” (18+ years old for character, 16+ years old for escort) Merchandise: “I met so many nice people with holiday cheer when I was selling parade collectibles, such as the Official Parade pins and hats during the parade!” (14+ years old)
Parade Route Marshals& Assistants: “Being a Parade Route Marshal was such a rewarding experience. I was able to oversee the pace of the parade at the key locations along parade route. The experience is something I will remember for many days to come, especially since I got to keep my PayPal Holiday Helper windbreaker jacket.” (18+ years old for Marshals, 16+ for assistants) Staging: “By volunteering with the staging division, I was able to assist the parade captains with the checking-in and lining-up of units, and the commencement of the parade. My areas included floats, marching musical units, balloons, specialty units, VIPs, and equestrians.” (14+ years old)
Parade Captains: “I had a wonderful time being a parade captain. I was able to oversee check-in and the lining-up of parade units. I also had the opportunity to oversee the start of the parade on Santa Clara Street and the adjacent streets. My PayPal Holiday Helper Jacket came in handy; the bright color and logo helped me stand out, so all the volunteers with questions found me quickly and easily. ” (21+ years old) Surveyors: “Being a people person, I was very excited to be a surveyor for the parade. I was able to interact with spectators along the parade route and record their valuable input.” (16+ years old) Unit Liaisons: “When I was a unit liaison, I escorted units down the parade route and was the communication between the units and the parade staff. My position played an integral part in keeping the parade running smoothly.” (18+ years old)
